Did the Gary Fox ride today.... Since Gary had knee surgery the ride has been getting smaller and smaller. But he will be back in a few more weeks and the numbers will go back up :)

Did the usuall start, then up side hill, thru the intestines, down cobles, across the watter fall. Then we took a detour up a fire road so that we could ride down Wyamia. Then the normal back the fire road to the Goat climb...

Which I must say was def racer with the clipless pedals! not so much zig zagging like I usually do just right up, cranked up the tuff sections also but by the end I was dead and had a cramp....

Road @ lunch tommorow!

Well wanted to punish myself today. I pushed hard on every climb, even the small ones.

I am so bad at getting dropped on short climbs. So I tried to hold the tempo I had on the section before up the small climbs grinding out even sprinting at times (like on the San Dieuito decent)

The first climb I followed Joe's wheel and he road a good tempo, when we hit the 2nd part of the climb, I put the hammer down! We held at least 17 mph up the climb (not exactly sure as I forgot my HR monitor and computer) But based on my gearing we were flying. Man did that hurt we hit the stop light at Camino Del Sur and I didn't even have the legs to accelerate again.... after a slow climb up Camino Del Sur the legs came back and I tried again to put the hammer down on a small climb but 3/4 of the way up I let up as I just didn't have the legs (and I dropped Joe for a change)
Did Torrey Pines outside but felt pretty good, much better than the last time I did it.

Wow started out the ride ripping! cleared the first 2 climbs and was feeling good.

Got to the windy woods section and on a left hander lost the front tire and went down so fast I didn't even put my hands out!

My head hit the ground so hard that my damn mellow left a 6" deep divit in the ground! damn I wish I had a camera cause I Owned that dirt with my head! :) Helmet looked ok, wasn't the crash that was bad it was the sudden stop at the end :)

Got up and def had a cloudy head..... kinda rolled thru the next couple sections def wasn't feeling all there.

As the ride went on I started to get some confidence back and was feeling better. I actually road all on Extra credit and was a little slow on the last down hill (just more causius than anything) Got a lill headache now but not nausious or anything so I should be good.

Haven't went down that hard since a took a digger on eticket in mission trails ~1 year ago.

I'll bounce back, all in all a good ride actually bested my best time down the trail.

Another good ride at mission trails.

First ride back in clipless pedals and...... I crashed 2 times :) Both on technical climbs where I couldn't get my feet out :)

One thing that caught me by surprise was my lack of confidence on the downhills...... feed back from the pedals to the shoe was so strange.... just couldn't figure out what the bike was telling me.... It will come with time.

I cleared the first tuff climb, but the second one is where I biffed 2X.... I then felt the great advantage of the pedals on the short steep ups you can totally crank and accelerate up the climbs. Didn't clear S turns either as I was too affair of falling over again.

Its harder than a normal XC bike as my IF has a super slack headtube angle it wheelies and I loose my balance. Loose your balance and you fall over..... So I need to start attacking the climbs harder keeping more speed and momentum and climbing out of the saddle to keep the front end down!

We'll see how it goes next week, no more XC this week.

Road friday then noble Canyon Saturday.

Had a decent post work ride.

Me and Joe set out, no Garey as he rode a hard ride earlier and didn't want to burn out.

Felt so so to start, then as the climbs came we just didn't slow down....

First climb we held 17mph up! ( usually 14-15MPH) then the second climb Joe set a tempo and we held 13mph! (I usually struggle to hold 10-11MPH)

But down the decent we got screwed and had to stop at a light (going form 40+ to 0 and start again.....

We didn't take long hard pulls like we usually do on the top area but still came in at a decent time.

Tomorrow first MTB in clipless pedals in 9 years....oy :)
