Racers and Chasers

So today was a good day!

Lets hit the start, camped over night to be at the race venue on time for a good warm up... but with the early start time ect ect I still only got in a 10min warm up... but I did get the HR up to 170-180 for a couple mins warm the legs up.

We started out of the moto gates which was cool! and straight up a small climb... I went over the top front half of the pack. into the first climb and I was held up in some traffic but I got thru (this 1 reason I should have gone out harder more on that later) So thru a ton of tight trails the course was loose! but I managed to keep the bike upright as people crashed around me. Hit the main desent and was held up again in slower traffic but I was cool and waited for the right spot to pass. I catch a guy in a GT jersey on a carbon Zaskar after he dabs in a spot and think nothing of it... *yea he was in the lead in my catagory... aka I was now in the lead and had no idea....* we hit the 2nd climb and the 10yard gap I had on him was gone we fought it out a bit but he got the best of me and he gapped me about 50yards toward the end of lap 1

lap 1 29:32 HR 176 avg

Lap 2 things calmed down and I started to race my own race gone was the dust of the wheels in front of me and I was really enjoying the new bike! The wheels were uber light and I could def feel them spin up fast on the climbs! I was getting use to the uber steep angles on the descents and kept it together nicely even in the deep sand! I was trying hard but just could make much headway on the GT guy.... I finished strong and when results posted I felt kinda dumb..... I mean I def had more left in the tank and if I had know he was THE man to catch I prob could have closed what turned out to be a 30sec gap.... lesson learned :)

Lap 2 27:23 HR 171 avg

Lessons learned get in a good 20min warm up! hitting LT!

Always go for the hole shot, slow traffic is worse then having people try and pass you as you recover later...

and Always have the fucking hammer down! next time :)

Big thanks to Pronghorn for the bike and wheels. Huge thanks to the guys (Mike and Doug) at North of the Boarder bike shop for all thier help and the jersey to race in today since team kits werent in yet! Glad to do ya proud :)

Catching up again

Well I'm not totally caught up on this site but I'm getting there with so many new tools I'm using (training peaks and twitter) trying to see how this blog is going to work its way into things...

But the last week as been crazy really started to get stuff going for the 50 mile socal epic my first real solo endurance race will be Oct 3rd http://www.12hrsoftemecula.com/SOCALFATTIREEPIC.html

Started my training plan via Coach Zippy http://zippyathlete.blogspot.com/ good stuff last week was 8 days straight with a couple days in the gym that made me nice ans sore (weak weak upper body and core....) but its good stuff!

This week I had 3 bike goals, follow my training plan, finish the Pronghorn biuld, and get in shake out rides before the http://www.racersandchasers.com/ race saturday!

I got her biult!!! here minus the egg beaters, carbon Pringhorn cockpit, and Stans no tubes kit. but ridable non the less.

So fresh and so clean!

Diggin the white cable housing! fits so nice!

Front to back I'm impressed with the bike.

Fork, magura is stepping up its game in the suspension arena.... the fork is sub 3 lbs..... 100mm and is stiff! I did some tweatking and think I found the right settings for me and broke her in yesterday.

The controls: the X9 shifters are def a step up over the SLX... the shiftign is crisper, the levers are all medal no plastic just has a nice fit and finish. the Elixer brakes I have a love hate relationship with them.... I love the front but just like on my stumpy I hate the rear... it was swish from teh box, I rebled it 2X and got it ok... but still not great... but they are nice and light... Teh ESI grips I didn't think I was gonna like... the weight was the right # but they seemed so squish but on the bike I like um!

Frame, well I'm plesently surprised at this one... I knew it was gonna feel race like very agressive and I thought it would be unforgiving but its not! I was saying to the guys while pedaling thru a canyon it felt like a hardtail but when I looked down I coudl see the shock movin a lill bit. It climbed like a hard tail esp in pro-pedal (which with the shock on top sooo easy to flip the switch) but when it got tech and you hit the rear wheel on a water bar you didn't get jared it soaked it up nice... (not plush like the stumpy but not ruff like a hardtail) Going down is where I was really worried and at first I was sketched!!! the front is twitchy and fast reaching from the steep head tube angle.... I was worried here but after riding for a bit I started to get used to it. I mean I'm not gonna be able to bomb tech downhills on this think, but is tight switch backs it was manuverable and super responsive! dare I say a fan of its decnding? I mean its not a desender but not as bad as I thought it woudl be and shined in teh tight stuff that wasn't too steep!

Drive train: the X9 stuff was great I set it up and aside from the odd Hi mount top pull front derailuer it was easy to dial in. No issues on the first ride with it!

Wheels: wow! I think its the best part of the bike! The pronghorn 1490 wheels were uber fast! the Kenda smal blocks roll fast! the hub sounds King like with out being uber loud engaugment was instant! I'm so pumped on these wheels, we'll see how they hold up as they are about as light as my CX wheels....

Only had one trailside fix, seat post was slipping down a bit and I think I'll ruff up the post a bit to get that to stop but after cranking down on it no issue after that. At the end of the ride my headset was loose sso I needed to tighthen that also but after a really fun ride on some of SD's funnest trails the verdict was GREAT!

Oh and I figured out how to post ride details from my training peaks account!
