WTF.... this was a comedy of errors and I don't really real like reliving it... Ride started good was trying to really take it easy and enjoy the ride and be all Zen and save the legs but get in a little workout. Up the initial climbs I get to the top of the climb after Scripps Poway Prkwy....

2 flats both front and back done.... After a few other fellow commuters help me out I'm back in business and I make it all the way past miramar and BAM! Rear tire goes out again.... I call Sean and he picks me up THANK GOD! Door to door 2.5 hrs.

went on-line bought a bunch of tubes, CO2, and a new rear tire as I'm not dealing with that crap tire anymore (3 flats on that tires in 3 weeks)..... Crappy way to end July

I realized I never uploaded the Pro-pics from the 24hrs at Temecula.

Well after my new neighbor's car alarm decided to go off at 1am for the second night in a row I got a slow and later start then I would have liked....

But After really burning out early in July I decided to take it a bit easier. So i kept telling myself to dial it down on this ride.... Pull back a bit on the climbs and just enjoy not being at work....

It was a cloudy day a bit cool, wish I brought arm warmers for the first 20 mins till I warmed up. But even with my slow riding and some luck at the lights I was still @ the 52 in under 30mins :) I still dialed it back and road thru Miramar at a relaxed pace. Down to carol cyn and I creeped up that hill.

Then up and to the bike path to Scripps poway prkwy.

Man People are so stupid I got the walk sign waited for a guy taking a right to see me (waiving and yelling to get his attention) then I get on the other side of traffic and a stupid bitch in a PT cruiser was flying up to take a right I knew she wasn't gonna stop before the X-walk. I slowed to let her thru and sure as shit she blew path be with a horrified look of OH I'M SO SORRY she lips to me thru the glass.... Look where the FUCK you are going next time I yell back as I'm still a bit cranky from just waking up :)

Can't wait for one of the best parts of my day the ride home :)

Oops!

So I have been trying to diagnose the gti's vaccum leak as I have been
getting a p136 leak code.... After the ride today while pulling into
the garage I could hear the hissing leak!

Upon closer inspection my keen mechanic skills found the very obvious
problem..... :)

After almost a week off I hit the trails again for a great ride with Jeff and Joe. We headed out from the visitor center and went north slowly climbing our way up to Miramar.

Down some uber fun single track and then back up to descend that great trail Jeff showed us. after the decent we were ripping back and my chain broke....

First EVER chain I broke on the trail... the master link broke, lucky me Jeff had a spare and after a small break we were back on it :) Great ride! Legs felt ok rested but resty, the lungs felt good, the best I'd say in a while!

Well after trying to well at lunch and breakfast and stretching my hamstrings (they kill!) I was ready for a nice ride home. Since I was on my own I thought to myself I'll ride with my Courier bag and 2 days with of cloths and lunch stuff.

I was moving at normal pace thru the 56 and on the initial climb up Camino Del Sur. I was feeling a little slow, but when I think back I really don't use my granny gear that much anymore and case in point is the short steep climb on camino del sur, I kept it in middle ring and cranked it out. I'm also using Big ring alot more, not just on descents on flats so either I'm just pushing harder gears or I'm actually getting faster.

But then I cruised to San Diegto rd, and hit the decent to the horse stables. It was odd not having a wheel on that long slightly uphill run to the polo fields. I was feeling pretty good now, my lungs were starting to clear out but my HR was def still up.

I headed west on lomas santa fe and south past dog beach. Cruised up the del mar climb and was regagated to skipping torrey pines.

When a guy in full CSC kit and riding a Cervelo sl-slc came zipping by me.... I jumped onto his wheel (well not totally on his wheel as not to be a total dick) He was cranking, full on skinny roady shaved legs, deep dish wheels.... I mean he was prob 6" taller than me, weighed 10 lbs less than me and his bike weighed 5 lbs less, I was riding wth at least 15 lbs on my back and I was already 20 miles into my ride (35 miles for the day)....

So I hang on as he cranks along the flat, I take a pull up front on the decent to the beach and I'm just waiting for this guy to destroy me up Torrey pines!

I can hear him just coasting behind me as his ceramic bearing wheels can just fly in my GIANT draft (as my bag was a giant wind blocker). at the base of the climb I stayed with in contact, till 1/4 of the way up. I had to switch to my granny gear and right then he danced on his pedals and noodled away.

1/2 way up I turned the corner and I could barely see him in the distance. I past by a guy I gestured to the guy and said "did that guy have a rocket in his ass?" he laughed and said "I thought I was going backwards when he kicked it up going past me"

I was schooled in the ways of how to climb, but it felt good as I hadn't planned on climbing Torrey Pines and while I got my ass handed to me by Mr. CSC fast guy I did pass 2 other people on that climb while wearing a HUGE bag :)

Ride in today was better than I thought it would be. My lungs are still all water logged from puking all saturday night.... But I did eat a good meal last night and got ok sleep.

Got on the road and the legs felt nice and rested and I was moving well! But as soon as I hit a climb the lungs hated me.... at the top of the first climb I had a bit of a coughing fit... nice yellow angry lung slime!!!!

Hit the climb to Camino Del Sur and was feeling slow but the time to the top was avg (30mins to Camino Del Sur) so I was feeling bla but riding ok.

Next up to Black Mnt Road I was dreading this but was feeling ok, climbing in 2x2 and was on track to hold it to the top, but paused for a second to help another rider with a flat, only a momentary pause then kept the gear going.

Across black mnt and i met up with Josh again going up the last climb and cruised to work. Only one minute slower than last week so not bad even though my AVG HR was like 10 BPM higher :)

The hamstrings are Uber tight after doign some dead lifts Monday, trying to get that back and hammies in shape for CO glad they hurt now and hopefully not in 2 weeks!

Case of the Mondays.....

Ok so I am officially bad luck for the sox this season.... I Have paid quite a personal and monitarial (spell check says its not a word....) price to got 5 games this season (more than I have been to in years) and they lost them all.... Including getting swept in Anaheim for the first time in 10 years.....

So with Manny's belly flopping craziness and our ineffective bridge to Pap I have a super case of the mondays! I after spending most of Saturday night puking and sunday hung over and getting yelled at by A-hole Angel fans. I hit the gym today and sweat it out! Gonna def have a horrible road ride tomorrow but what ever you have to start somewhere.

15 days to CO!

No Ridin

At the sox games in la this weekend no Ridin till Tuesday

With the news that they might be closing the tunnels.... We decided a tunnels ride was in order, I mean we just really started exploring this area and it has GREAT riding!

So from del mar mesa we left and dropped down Cobles, up the power lines put in a good effort and to the tunnels we went. I still get lost in here but we are starting to find our way.

Down rocking horse I'm starting to really enjoy t he tech jumps. then up the other side and then a loop up top. I was really on with my bike handling skills today.... I felt like I was really tossing the bike around nicely.

Back down rocking horse and then as we tried to find the water crossing we got a bit lost and found a new climb out which would make a sick decent! so I marked it on the GPS to do next thursday.

We kept the speeds up and finished with a little riding up top. Great ride looking forward to more exploring next week!

Getto fix = no MTB ride

Been crazy busy as of late and the Getto duct tape job on the upper
radiator hose on the mkii had seen better days.

So with coolant leaking everywhere I skipped todays mtb ride and
limped home from work and put a proper replacement hose in.

She'll live to fight another day!

Was Not on the ball for the ride home :( I felt good to start but then I met up with joe and matt and I got a flat.... the new tube blew out! then I got a 2nd tube in there and off we were.

Matt was going off! He was on the TT rig and hammering! I got dropped a few times.... esp on the descents as I was getting sketchy trying to hold wheels for some reason.

We did work really well together on the flat to the polo fields. But I got dropped my matt again on the climb into Rancho Santa Fe. We made our way back to the coast and I was getting really really hungery!

We stopped and I grabbed a Gatorade and a cliff bar and downed both in 10 sec.... yea that was too fast... but it was a nice ride back down the coast at the sunset. Not my best work but its miles....

Flats suck

WTF 30 mins into the ride I flat! Oh boy got another 2hrs to ride..... onward!

Posts from the Iphone

Testing out a new feature here of posting pics from my iPhone.

Here is joe last week after sycamore when some Ahole busted out his
window.....

New HR Monitor is in :) Thanks Steep and Cheap! Psuedo Commute today as I'm riding after work with Joe/Matt. Was feeling ok this am and was thinking I might be able to put good effort in.

To Carmel Creek Rd. was feeling good. I started putting in serious effort on the climb to Carmel Mnt Road and then up to Carmel Del Sur

I was at 75% or so. I was saving a bit for the Black Mnt road climb and I hammered it! 90-95% did it cleanly in middle ring 3rd cog :) Def my fastest accent yet for sure.

Bumped into a co-worker at the top and took it easy and chatted the rest of the way to work. Good stuff!

Back to the BIG RIDE! wow this is def a stretch for a day trip but its soooo worth it! We got Joe to drive as the 4 mile decent down the dirt road would be much easier! There was rumblings of thunder in the distance but we had great weather!

Up the initial climb to the river crossing and up a bit more I was feeling good. The HR monitor was busted so no good effort stats. Then down the small decent and onto the main climb, moving well we crossed the road and then really started to gain elevation and getting into exposure!

At one point I put the hammer down and ran it out at 80-90% for a good 10-15mins. Was feeling good, we made our way up then we ripped the lill decent to the camp ground.

Downed a PB&Bananna and a cliff bar and back off to do that initial climb before the big decent. My body hates be on this section but once we got to the DH I hit it! And Joe on his new Rig was loving life!

We ripped it up for a bit thru the exposure and sick views. Then we got to the river crossing and it was back up a bit..... I was feeling much better this time and the climb didn't hurt that much, then that final decent to the car SOOOO fast! and fun:)

I found a way to add a few miles to this ride think next time we do this it will be part of a weekend trip but that won't be for a while as I'm not sure we'll have the time before winter.... But we'll get back there some time!

New Parking spot today. Parked at the top of Cobbles in Foo foo vill and we'll see how long that lasts as tons of people were doing it since the intestines closed....

Down Cobbles and up power lines, I felt good on powerlines no stopping at the top cont on till we got to the tunnels. Down Rocking horse hit the first couple jumps I need to sack up and hit the rest! Then back across the water crossings and up the eastside of the cyn.

Did a couple runs up top then back to the car. Not a ton of climbing but TONS of great single track!

Headed to PQC for a solo MTB ride today. I wasn't feeling it really.... I was very close to bailing but I'm glad I went. My HR monitor is on the fritz a bit I had to stop 2X to adjust it to get it to read right....

But I started at the lower lot and headed into the Canyon. I was feeling ok, and I was inspired by the number of people out there.... As I past one person I saw another on the horizon so I'd try to catch them.... and so on and so forth :) I past a whole lotta peeps, esp on the climbs!

Lower back was getting sore but it was good as my legs felt good and I was putting some good power down! Up powerlines I didn't even pause till I got to the very top not just at the false peek.

I rocked the tunnels (still wimped out on last 2 jumps and I skipped a new one.) up out of the cyn and back thru to the car I was moving well! Another good ride!

Ok so for the last few days I've been saying I don't feel fit.... but everytime I ride to or from work I break my privious record....

So I left work feeling pretty good, scale on this one a 7. I hit the initial climbs and I layed into it. Not 100% but pretty hard, up the bike path, up the 15 path, then I started to really hammer on the short but steep climb to caroll Canyon Road.

Past the highschool and I hold big ring till I get to the bottom of Carroll Canyon. Up the climb to Miramar I pushed it, then across onto Kearny Villa road and dialed it up Big ring the whole way till I cross over the 52.

I hit Claremont Mesa road and I start to hit like every light and I'm feeling like my time is gonna suck.... But I get on the final stretch and I see I'm at 1hr.... So I drop the hammer and push big ring all the way home!!!! New PR ;)

After the Big Laguna Ride my lungs felt like crap.... the ride was insanely duty and I had black stuff in my nose, black stuff in my ears and I was coughing up black crap! not good. I woke up this am with a stomach ache....I sound like I'm 12, but I guess a 5 cheese personal pizza, 6 glasses of ice tea, and a beer kicked my GI track in awful vill.....

So this am I was weezy and queezy and not on top of my game. on a scale of 1-10, 1 being sick as a dog and 10 being top of my game I was at a 3.....

So off I went and I felt like I was moving mad slow and it took me all the way to the 52 to feel warmed up (30mins in) I pushed a bit of big ring on Kearny Villa Road and we pushing well up Carol Canyon....

I caught a few lights and actually finished strong and beat my best time to work be 30sec.....

*Shrug* I ate a good breakfast lots of water and an Emergen-C and feel better. We'll see as the week goes on.

Good ride today! Long Ride! Started a bit leak, the altitude was putting the cybosh on me (whole ride over 5,000 feet) at the initial climb, which in the end had little payoff....

But after a couple hrs we got off the fire roads and into some great single track. I was getting kinda owned on the climbs but its not like I got to the top last :) as I lead out on many climbs :) Funny these days as I'm not so happy when I'm not the first to the top :) I was not riding the descents very well either.

Lots of loose, silty, moon dust :( But as we got to hr 3 I dropped the psi a bit and WOW!!! ok so 40psi is way to much for the soft stuff... I'm learning but yea I dropped the pressure (a lill bit too low) but I was descending way better!!!!

We did a nice loop around a meadow (which had a few scary looking big ass Bulls in the pastor eye us....) We made our way to Penny Pines and then up the initial climb to Noble Cny, then down the top section to the first road crossing :)

Now it was getting good! we climbed back up to penny pines then did a really fun ride around the rest of the meadow. I was then finally! at 4hrs feeling like myself! I was moving well and the legs while a bit tired we moving well! Great ride!

Tried a new ride from the visitor's center but got a lill lost so we just did and out and back. Joe was rocking his new rig, very nice!

I really like this ride and if we could make this a loop have to get Jeff out there and show us the way. I wasn't feeling particularly well, I find myself saying that alot as of late.... I'm not sure but I think its because I was hammering and so disciplined this spring. But I did ride ok.

More lata now sleep!
