Great ride today :) Started out feeling a bit sluggish not a ton of sleep and ate beer, pizza and mozzarella sticks last night!

after about 20mins in the climb I finally felt warmed up! and me and Jeff held a stead pace to the top. Nothing earth shattering but a comfortable pace.

We hit the decent and it was off to the races! I really really like this loop up top, we cut out the very top of world cup as we don't really ride that much of it anyway. I rode alot more of the little drops and squirrelly lines thru the tight turns and then ripped thru the burms! Cruised the main decent at a good clip and back to the car.

The ride almost felt too short..... I guess we you don't stop at all and keep a steady pace you go alot faster over all :)

Another great thursday ride. I was feeling a bit drained from work and sleepy but I was happy to be out of work and on my bike! We started out down Lopez and off to wagon wheel. Then it was across the cyn and up power lines. I was feeling ok but joe and matt were screaming!

I was last up the climb but we were all together. I kept going onto tunnels they staggered behind as they pushed hard up the climb. We hit the tunnels and started to rip! I was feeling really good skills were on I hit the first jump and ripped the burms.

I stopped at a trail intersection and no sign of the guys.... So I start heading back yea matt all out lost his non drive side crank arm..... right off.... we did a loop up top and then down Cobles. Joe was screaming down cobles!

I felt pretty good and rocketed past the water fall. Then we regrouped and headed up the goat climb. I was unsure of how I would do. But after feeling pretty good on the fire road I was in for the long haul. I cleared the second section but got hung up on the 3rd dabbed once and then cleared the top!

So after a long day at work I geared up for the ride back to sorrento valley with detours up north!

I rode out easy and chatted it up with a guy on the 56 trail and met up with the guys just west of camino del sur. We went up the climb to camino del sur pretty hard! I could have been in my big ring!

We headed north on camino del north and were grooving, Matt was laying down hard turns up front and I was willing to let him go as we had a lot of riding to go. Down San Digeito Road and around the horse stables we worked well together.

At first I was feeling sketch as its been some time since I pulled a pace line. We kept it going well 75% thru Matt popped he took a turn up front and that was it. me and Joe finished out the section and Matt headed home to catch the train.

We headed up into Rancho Santa Fe from there and my legs that weren't feeling too good now were feeling much better. But I was starting to get hungry.

Up to manchester ave and onto the PCH where we had a sick tail wind. Cranked our way to torrey pines and skipped the climb as it was getting dark and my ass was killing me (2hrs in the saddle at that point) and I was tired.

Great ride ~50 miles for the day! good stuff!

Note to self don't ride with a bag if you don't have to! I forgot to pack clothes Friday as I had Monday off.

The extra 10-12 lbs def slowed me down a bit and wore on my shoulders a bit... wouldn't be bad home as its all down hill but to work was a bit more of a grind.

Not a bad effort riding after work too so eating like a mad man now :)

Epic comes to mind! It had that Epic feel to it from the start. We pack up the car 4 guys, 4 bikes in a sedan and drove up to the southside of Big Bear Mnt. There we found out it was a 4 mile drive down a dirt road (thanks jeff as I would have made you guys ride if we were in my car).
The weather was cool, low 40's deep in the valley and we had a thick cloud cover I was a bit under prepared for the cool weather but thankfully I grabbed a light jacket before leaving the house and had my knee warmers in my bag.

started out on a fire road climb with no warm up and I felt it.... I was def feeling a bit fat but after getting onto the single track and riding ~30mins i finally warmed up. though my feet were pretty cold but the legs were moving well. We kept up a nice pace and about 1/2 way up we hit a good spot for a break.

Most of the group took a long break but I was all warmed up and we were moving at break neck speeds so a few of us decided to get a move on. This is where the real climbing started, tight single track tons of exposure (long way down!) and lots of pedaling. We made our way up and after a while at a pretty intense pace I backed off as I wasn't sure how far we'd have to go.

Glad I did as we climbed for a total of almost 2hrs! toward the top the legs were really tired but the lungs were ok despite my poor performance in cool weather in the past.

We were 3rd or 4th to the top out of a group of almost 30 (and we were the last people to leave the parking lot some people had like a 20min head start) we broke there for ~15mins eat a cliff bar, jelly bellys, and shot blocks. and we were back on the trail for the decent.

The beginning was actually tough in the legs as there was very little pedaling but that made it hard to warm up as I was shivering at the top (had to be below 40) but we got moving and WOW what a fun decent. Not rocking white knuckle fast but fun, flowing, curvy exposed trails with sick views!

We back tracked over the spot where jeff almost took a 200' slide into a ravine and made our way down. I was feeling good, the legs were there, the I was riding well.

We hit a small climb before the last decent and my legs had very little left. I was going for broke on a few occasions pushing myself hard. One little water crossing I smashed my knee on my bars and was getting cranky as fatigue was setting in. But as I was getting grouchy we hit the final decent and FLEW! I led out and while I didn't have the legs to accelerate out of the turns I was moving well and linking all my turns together smoothly.

Back to the lot and into the car for the drive home!

SICK RIDE! I'll be back there in a month or so well worth the drive!

Good ride, started out feeling a bit tired (sleepy) and the legs were tired from the road riding the day before but I felt good once I warmed up on the climb back up from the 52. Down eticket and thru the valley I felt smooth and flowing. I cleared S-turns with ease..... yea I said it with ease.... HR felt good, legs felt good, I picked good lines and up up and a way I went right up the climb! back to the lot and 1 great ride with an unreal low avg HR 135..... cool :)

Road with joe after getting to sorrento valley, we went out pretty hard at the start and cruise out the 56 path. up the first part of the climb joe layed a great tempo, I then set hard tempo up the 2nd section. which HURT! we cruised to the base of the black mnt road climb and I killed it middle ring set strong pace and dropped Joe a bit and that blew my legs out!!!! I could feel my calfs wanting to cramp! we hit the decent and I tucked tight and was hurting on the ensuing climb.... We then headed west and got a nasty on shore wind! Joe was setting great tempo and I was burnign up, I took a couple strong but painful pulls up front and Joe finished it out to the decent down to sorrento valley. Great ride and the end of a 46 mile day.

Road back to sorrento valley legs were a bit sluggish, I had to pee and now I know when riding a bike if you have to pee just go. I tried to hold it for too long and I couldn't even ride in the drops as it gave me a nasty stich in the side! The legs weren't feeling it and the stitch in my side was killing me!

Road into work from Sorrento Valley in the am, started out great legs felt strong after the 2 day break. I was moving really well, and hit the first climb hard and caught a couple people on that climb and felt great! Hit the 2nd climb up to black mnt road and hammered! did it in the middle ring (a new one for me!) and felt really strong! the new section of the 56 across the 15 was open and is great! it doesn't save that much time as you have to be really carefull at the lights and wait for the walk signal as it would be easy to get hit.

The usual thrusday night ride. The legs were feeling tired but I was amp'd to be on the MTB after 5 straight rides on the Road bike.

We hit the trail and my legs were feeling sluggish. We took it easy which was nice. I got to the top of the Powerlines climb first but didn't have the legs I had a few weeks ago.

For some odd reason I was hungry prob because my diet has been sloppy this week and sleep has evaded me since the start of the week and I've been playing catch up.

We hit the tunnels and felt ok, not rock solid on the technical side but I got a rhyme going. We went to climb out and I almost got taken out by a guy coming down, that let joe pass me which was fine as my legs really weren't on to take it to the climb.

We them headed over to the cobbles decent where I was feeling better and was quick. thru the cyn and over to lopez I took this one pretty easy. granny up most of it then with about 25% to go I stepped it up a bit and while the legs were sluggish I put in a good effort. Good ride!

Thru Miramar I was feeling good, the legs still not fresh but were working ok. I kept it in the middle ring the whole time up past the highschool and on poway road and up to work. Good time got to work really hungry!

After riding back to Sorrento Valley, I met up with Joe and we did the Torrey Pines to La jolla ride.

I was def tired. We did Torrey pines inside and I was sluggish but got up in ok time. Then was past Torrey Pines Golf course. felt ok here and picked it up as we passed UCSD and felt ok on the decent.

I again crawled up the Scripps climb..... we cruised back to Sorrento Valley and were done. I was really tired and needed sleep.

I got home and tossed on a box of Annies Mac n Cheese showered and tossed a can of tuna in it, sat ate the whole thing then ate a handful of fig newtons and went to bed at 9pm and sacked out!!!!!

Drove to Sorrento Valley and parked and road into work. Felt good, started out easy it was a bit cold out but I was ok.

I was going at a good pace felt good on the first climb kept it in the middle ring and middle of the cog and kept a good pace.

On the 2nd climb I shifted down to the granny but kept it in the middle cog and kept a strong pace to the top.

Was surprised I felt so good, I did get lots of sleep but I was pretty short on sleep and I'm a bit tired now. But getting ready to ride back to Sorrento Valley and go for a post work ride.

So Kerin and her Mom left early to head back to San Diego and I hung back to get in a ride up here in Santa Barbara wine country. It was a cool damp day much like the day before. So I started off with booties, long sleeve jersey, knee warmers, and a light jacket.

As I climbed out of the valley the sun got alot stronger and I packed the jacket up into my jersey pocket and took a quick pic.

I followed the road as it rolled along thru vineyards and horse farms quiet and nice. Road was dead straight but not flat at all! rolled up and down up and down it was crazy.... hit a short decent and hung a left onto "Happy Canyon" sounded nice enough and it was at this point I was just cruising not a very hard pace just riding and enjoying the scene. I figured this was the closest I'll come to riding in the south of france riding amung all the grape vines and mnts in the backdrop.

I then turned onto a new road and it got pretty bumpy :( and I was over come by the smell of horse shit :( prob for the next 5 miles :( that wasn't that great but I turned it up a bit to try and get thru it.

I crossed back over the 154 and headed thru Los Olivos and onto the top part of the Tour to California ITT course. I rounded the island at the center of town and headed for the short but steep climb! I hit the base and started thinking of Big George, Levi, Jen Voit, World camp ITT Canchellara and I felt pretty lucky to ride the same spot they did. I kicked it down a few gears and hit the climb hard! pushed low gears out of the saddle for 90% of it! I had to sit at the top as I was getting burnt, not as fast up as I would have liked.... the legs were a bit tired and I was feeling my lack of breakfast in my stomach and I had no food on me...

After the climb it was 85% down back to town to I tossed it in my Big ring and told myslef I'm not shifting out of this till I hit Solvang.... and I did just that! Hammered the low gears and used the whole road as it winded thru the vineyards I'm sure it was nicer than I really remember but I was hammering and kinda concentrating on the road :)

Hit a tight left hander before a short steep climb saw no cars coming so I used the whole road and ripped it at ~25mph and then hammered as hard as I could up the short climb. I kept it in the big ring (but did shift into my easiest cog for a sec;) after that it was crank crank crank crank! back into town GREAT RIDE! can't wait to do more riding out there!
