Nice easy mission trails recover ride :)
Started out the normal route but everyone wanted a shorter ride so I did a medium ride and cut out bedford hill and met everyone at the ledge, down e-ticket and I cleared S-turns. I skipped xtra credit as hell its my recovery day :)
Nice spin.... speaking of spins my head was so so.... hoping to get better and better as the days go on :)

Santa Ynez Race
So wake up and try and shake off the nyquil fog, and pop too much advil....my head was spinning from my inner ear issue....
There was a nice lill loop section at the start where the feed zone was and had a small hill in it so warm up was great there. 9:15 I start the warm up, easy 130-140bpm first lap, 150+ on 2nd lap, I hammer the crap out of the 3rd lap 170's, and back to 140's for my 4th lap 25min warm up adn ready to stage.
I cool off a lill waiting for the start. top 10 in the series get call ups. I start 3rd row.
Gun goes off I get into my pedal and we are off, into the first turn and I get squeezed.... I could have tossed an elbow but I tapped the brakes and fell in line. up the first lill hill I look back and we are all together wheel to wheel the whole group I'm sitting about 9-10th wheel. Down the hill and off onto the course. We all stay together till the base of the first switch back climb and I'm redlined!!! I'm try not to panick but there is no way I'm gonna be able to hold this pace no way! I get passed by 2 guys right before the switch backs.
We go into the climb and things start to calm down 2 guys go off the front and people start settleing in to thier pace. I pass a couple guys in the switch backs (think I'm sitting ~10th) I see one guy from our group (marked 19 on our legs 30-34 was 19...) with a flat so now I think I'm 11th.... I start to back off a bit and I see a guy from my group come up behind me. On the 2nd climb and put the screws to him!!!! never see them again... My desecnding is a bit off due to my head not on straight but the legs are feeling good and going up since its not technical all you need was legs....
up the 3rd climb and down to the start finish, I drop my arm warmers off to Kerin and don't take a bottle in the feed zone as the 1 I started with is still half full. First lap 50mins. I left the bike in Pro-pedal the whole time only changing the fork travel from 150-80mm on the climbs.
2nd lap I'm feeling he burn but am really warmed up now and open it up a bit on the main climb, I get passed here and there by a couple guys from other groups (marked 20 and 21) I pass a few guys from the 19-29 crew (marked 18) but I never see another 19 again.... I keep the hammer down though as I don't want to get caught and I wanna put in max effoert.
It was fun to see teamates out there even though I didn't know them got a few cheers from the crowd (Go SHO-AIR!) I finished strong and after the final turn I looked back saw no one zipped up my jersey and rolled no handed over the line (no arms up like a I won or anything just happy with my effort)
Ended up I was 12th out fo 25 guys so mid pack was my goal and I got it :) 1:38 Great race!

Santa Ynez pre-ride
Woke up early saturday am and met up with 1 of my new teamates to pre-ride the course. Was really cool as he had raced there before so he knew the course well.
Up the first climb it was steep and I was trying to take it easy the day before the race, fun tight switch backs and had 1 really steep turn!
up a lill more and we passed the DHers at the starting house, man I used to be one of those guys making fun of me and spandex :)
Across the top and down a fun off camber desecent, lots of off chamber. Hit the 2nd climb not a bad one fire road that turned to single track steep at times but not bad at the top of this one we ran into a few locals (cows....) we continued up and at the next corner there were cows but these ones had horns.... sketchy.... around the next corner I look up the hill to my right and there is a HUGE cow freeked out running along side of us.... that thing was freaked! and I was a lill too :)
down a lill and up the last climb this was wasn't bad at all middle ring and keep it moving. Down a couple long switch backs and ripped the fire road back :)
I played alill around the start thinking of what gear I wanted to start in and what the enterance to the single track was like.
Good ride was glad to have a giude!

Mission Trails Punishment....again....
Well trying to get into the this bio-rythme (uber hard days on sunday to simulate race efforts) I moved my MTB ride to monday thinking it would be cooler then sunday.... Wrong it was 107 at my work at noon... great... I hit the train @ 5:15 it was ~95 deg... My camel back had leaked all over my bag soaking all my clothes which worked out nice :) I was relatively cool to start.
I hit the dirt HARD skipping extra credit early in order to try and warm up proper in this heat. down the stairs and up to the Mesa I wasn't feeling all that fast the heat was zapping me.... Across the mesa I put in good effort and down tothe 52 I was rockin the down.
Hit the 4 steps on the way to the ledge the conditions were tough, Hot, dry, dusty traction was low.... no dabs no pauses up the steps to teh ledge and down the ledge over the rollers and down to E-ticket lost my concentration for a sec and BAM I'm on the ground... Loose corner low side... Its ok I didn't need the skin on my elbow/calf.... Down E-ticket and thru the cyn I'm not feeling it (after the crash) I try to put in a good effort up S-turns but I don't have the energy to surge up the water bar, and then my seat desides to drop on its own a lill further up... I keep it going and head up the fire road for lap 2, stop as I realize my seat post is slipping....then keep moving. The sun is setting and falling behind the hills now and the heat is dropping, now I'm coming around! across the mesa I feel good, down E-ticket much better I rock the canyon (stop again as my front screwer opens) and head up S-turns... No issues this time! I rock it! Up to Xtra credit no hesitation and up I go! 1st time up hurt alot, I fly down the desecnt, and head back to go at it again! 2nd time is better (its getting cooler out but my damn seat keeps dropping) I go for a 3rd round up! I nail it and feel good trying to keep my HR above 160 on the decents. I head back to the car. 1 crash, 3 stops for mechanicals and I still fly :) Hoping for good stuff this weekend!

SD Bay Ride
Great ride! I really dig this ride!
We set out from Mission bay so I rode straight out from my house (I love riding from my house cause when your done your home:)
We headed off to get downtown the cross wind was pretty bad (I have no idea what is up with the wind of late...) thru downtowan with a stop to grab our ferry tix and we were off past petco and into national city... my rear wheel took a beating on the crap roads in NC... that needs some trueing now :( But the pace was light and we were chatting it up :)
Finally into chula vista and past the audi/vw's shipping port lots of Q7's out there must not be selling well.... past the new marina down there @ the junction of the 94 we were just talkin and chilling a light pace. On the bike path for a bit that was nice, then once on the road again matt decided to open it up a lill, he came past me ~30mph (me ~20ish) I jump on his wheel and hang he sits up and looks back and was very surprised to see me I think that was the hardest I worked all day :)
couple turns here and there and we were onto the new bike path that connects 13st/the strand to Chula Vista.... wow that was nice! fresh pavement! clean, fenced off, lots of wild flowers out! makes the ride soooo nice with out having to ride on palm ave in IB...
on to the strand we went Matt led us out and I came up and was like lets pick a easy pace and do 30s pulls keep it light and easy. he sets the pace @ about 19-20mph and we take great turns just rotating around (Don taking great pulls) and we slayed the strand in no time and I don't think I even broke 165 bpm... good stuff!
we cranked around a bit and caught the 12:30 ferry accross the Bay (lill pano pic from the boat)
Back to downtown we ride up the PCH to mission bay again and do a lap around fiesta island for fun! Matt heads to the car and I take it easy cruising up to my house (greated I was starting to feel crampy heading up as I forgot to eat breakfast and was now @ almost 3hrs with no food...)
Great ride looking forward to doing to more and more on my light days (NO HILLS!)

Mission Trails
The usual wednesday night ride but it was a lill cool and a stiff wind again! So with the SDMBA meeting at 7pm there were only 2 of us riding. We set out up the usual route and I felt good on the warm up climb. down thru the cyn and up to the mesa I felt strong. Chilled across the mesa and then down to the 52. Up the steps I movin nice and was not smoking it but I was cleaning stuff and feeling good. Down the rollers and down Eticket my descending was on par! thru the cyn and the rock garden I was rockin the tech stuff. I cleared s-turns no problem! up the fire road and then up xtra credit no issues moving well the legs liked the medium effort.

Lunch Ride
Another killer lunch ride! Headed out to do Monster Cookie (the ride that killed me ~6 weeks ago.
The wind was out in force (south, south west @ 15-20mph) I headed out and took the front (as lot of the fast guys weren't riding) I pulled pretty hard and as I got to Poway road I realized I lost the entire group (mainly at a light but I caught 1 also) I stopped for a min or so and they caught up. i grabbed the front again and pulled to The base of the climb.
I took 2nd wheel on the base of the climb half way up I jumped to the front and with 500 yrds left on the main climb I jumped! and hammered and nobody followed :)
Turned the corner and we rode a good tempo up the rest of the climb with what seemed like a head wind in every direction we rode.... looped around and back down Pomerado i was cranking.
We hit the straight drag that is usually tough up Pomerado (slow open climb) I took 2nd wheel but now we had a sick tail wind and drafting did nothing. I moved to the front but it was an easy pull with the tail wind we flew up that section.
the left and up to work I kept a nice pace, back to work and I felt good (lungs a 6 the legs an 8) this ride was ~4 mins faster then 6 weeks ago and and that day I was following wheels and there was little wind.... nice!

PQC Ride
Great easy ride today :) Got all kinds of caught behind some horses today....
Took it easy tried really hard not to push it... out thru the cyn and rode around, then up powerlines I got caught by a guy couldn't just let him go :) So I caught on and passed him beat him to the top by a good 100yrds... Legs felt good lungs heated me... We chatted a bit I bitched about tunnels closing and I showed him where he can't ride....
back accross the Mesa and down Cobles :) fun! Down past the water fall out of the Cyn and up goat climb... I took at as easy as I could trying to keep the HR low and cleared it all no issues :)

Spin....
Friday had a good light spin session to get the junk out of my legs, after a good week of training. I'm really hoping that after 2 days off this weekend I can put in a really good week next week and get the legs of proper shape for Santa Ynez!

PQC Ride
I got in the car and thought about where to ride and I was kinda sick of the gnar rocks at mission trails... So I hit up PQC
From the lower lot I headed east and thru the cyn cruising past the waterfall I was wearing headphones (which I never do) and passed a couple guys on single speeds kinda felt like a dick as I couldn't really commuticate with them but I tried to say hi and have a good ride prob way to loud a voice.... Next up was powerlines I was determined to middle ring it and I did with relative easy :) I kept the pace up the rest of the hill and over to a place I will not mention for legal reasons.... Had a great ride there and then back over to the top of cobles. Ripped down cobles my bear bell a ringing.
Saw the gary fox crew at the bottom gave up a thumbs up and a hi (again feeling like a dick for having headphones on) But wolfmother was on and I dig those guys!
Out of the canyon I cruised at a good clip and back to the lower lot but I wasn't done. I hammered the Goat climb with athority! I'm don't think I ever got up it that fast. The lower half I wasn't sure I was feeling it but at the false flat where I usually gather myself I kept the speed up and went right into the next sections and cleared then with easy (well the legs burned but the balance and bike handling was no issue with that much speed) All the way to the top and I was off to go down Lopez quick pic of the canyon
that pano app is cool :)
Down I went hauling some serious ass (bear bell ringing again)
Great ride :)

The lake
Well the rains held off so I hit the road after work. Wind was crazy 15-25mph out of the south/west... So the first bit was bad the climb up it slowed and I put in a really good effort trying to push harder gears then normal. @ scrippspoway pkwy I caught the light for a sec and then blasted the next section and really put it to myself on the last up. I turned the corner and headed to the lake, I didn't let up and hit the lake hard. the wind was nasty! but I was moving diving into the corners, sprinting out, I dig the lake.... I came accross the dam and had to stop to try out my new panoramic pic app on the Iphone :)
I need more practice....
Back at it I headed on to miramesa and over to black mnt road for one last good climb... I forgot how steep that can be but I gave it a good run! east on the 56 path and up sabre springs I kept it in Big ring all the way to work! even past the post office that was pushing it for me :)

Lunch ride
My stomach was still not right but I headed out for a lunch ride intent on putting in a good effort. We headed down to the 56 and the guess were moving. I let them go to start figuring I could catch them on the next lill bump up. But I gave um too much of a leash and I had to push hard to regroup with them, did it on the next bump up. I held my own and took a pull or two to the base of the climb we were moving fast and I had a stitch on my side from my stomach ache... We hit the climb and I just wanted to stay with the group as we were def moving today. We got strung out and I gave a couple guys some leash with the intent on pushing hard at the top. I was sitting in 4th with 50yrds to 3rd and 100 yrds to 1/2. I got out of the saddle and hit the gas, caught and passed #3 much to his dismay but 1/2 were just out of reach. Down the other side I tried to get the guys to take even pulls but when it came time for my pull I got a nice windy slight uphill.... then as soon as I was done it was time to go left and up a bump.... not great timing and I got dropped. I caught back on at a crazy steep section 13% as I hammered out of the saddle and got myself back in to #3. down and up to RB high I stayed in that #3 spot. Cruised back to work a beat man :)

Mission Trails Punishment....
So yesterdays ride HURT!!! I think it was 50% the fact that My stomach hurt and 50% the fact that I put it to myself pretty hard from the get go.
Started out a different way then planned as my GI was so so and didn't feel like doing hill repeats, so I decided a mock race would be better as I could back off and just ride if I had too. Started out and went straight up a decent climb, that set the tone of pain right there (and I think the lack of warm up really shocked my body...) no pausing no dabbing, down the stairs and up to the Mesa, cranking accross the top and down to the 52. I Cleared the steep and the 4 steps up to the ledge. No pausing no rest I dropped the ledge and hit the rollers. Down E-ticket and thru the valley cranking. Dropped it into the granny gear and hit S-turns took some bad lines but my legs had pop today and go myself out of um and CLEARED IT! 2nd time in a row! I do this ride in a group wednesday nights alot and as I did it solo I realized how much I stop to wait.... I didn't unclip to dab at all realizing I usually get 4-5 lill 1-2 min breaks at the top of climbs but I just kept going as I would in a race.
I only dabbed once on the whole ride where on a loose rocky climb I lost traction and dabbed, put my foot back in and started going again no walking! I was kinda mad at myslef for dabbing there so after the decsent I went back around and did the climb again.... I cranked up the cadence and hit the climb again. This time cleared it with authority! I never felt good on this ride. The legs were powerful picking me up out of bad lines when I wavered but my lungs and stomach kept telling me to stop and I wouldn't! In the end I think it was mainly my stomach but also the lack of warm up.....

Lake Miramar Ride
HIt up the lake for a ride. Conditions were windy! steady out of the SSW adn cool. There were only 2 of us but I hid behind a wheel for the decent then took a pull leading up to the climb. I wasn't feeling all that great on the climb the legs were feelign yesterday a bit and my lungs kinda hate me the past couple days. But we were moving good no hesitation right up over the top and kept it moving to the lake. I took a couple pulls leeding up to the lake and then we hit the lake. We were flying! I don't think I've ever gone that fast around the lake! I only took 2 pulls as my partner was hammering. We paused quickly at the end of the lake took a couple sipps of water and off we were. Up to the 15 bike path I never switched out of my big ring! that was a first.... Now with the wind at our backs we hammred out the slight grade back up to work. I was pretty spent in the end but I only switched out of my big ring for the main climb else I was hammering good cadence in my big ring :) weekend off back at it Monday!

Lunch Ride (Rob Jr.)
The Clouds were just breaking but I still wore the knee/arm warmers and I was glad I did as the wind was out of the west at a good clip. We set out to do Rob Jr. i like this route lots of empty roads good climbing and fast decsents!
Off the bat I was taking it easy letting the main group go as I warmed up knowing I could catch on the first bump of the day and I did. We hit the 56 path and it was hammer time. I got in a small break of 3 and we worked (well I took short pulls and mostly sucked on wheels) till we turned north. We stoped for a min to let others catch and I took a leak.
We headed north thru a Cyn and then down to the Horse grounds. Now we hit the main climb and I was determined to stay with the group of 3. So I played it easy and sat on and waited to see how it would develope. 1 guy sat up and and was me and 1 other. I got paced up (more like I just held on) over the top and then was finally dropped by the lead guy over the top. We regrouped on the next straight and kept up the slow climb.
I was hurtin from the main climb and def put in a lill too much on it.... but I needed the ass kicking. We climbed up to 4S ranch and there I got dropped again. Rob dropped back and was cool enough to pace me back up to the front guy. (I did wait for him at the top of the main climb so it was karma) He paced me back up but the lead guy was on a mission and dropped us again. I put in a monster effort to catch him again but then I was done and sat up. Cruised back to work. I great lunch ride :)

Mission Trails Ride
Great evening ride tonight. I was not feeling super at work, runny nose, sinus pressure ect ect but once I was clipped in and riding I started to feel good. Took it really easy on the first climb wanted to ease into the ride. We went down a bit and then up to the Mesa again at a slow pace was being cautious.
Once on the Mesa I took it easy and descended to the 52 and we climbed out I didn't hammer but cleaned everything nicely. Up to the ledge I was feeling good and my bike handling was great. Down to E-ticket my descending was feeling really good, thru the canyon and to S-turns.... I was pretty happy here as for the first time on the Stumpy I CLEANED IT! and didn't really feel that winded up top! I just picked my spots and rode smart! Up the fire road and Tom suckered me into going back up for some extra credit... There goes taking it easy I thought but the legs felt great! I granny geared it and got up with ease (this is a climb I use to struggle on alot!) I rocked the descent and back to the car :) Great ride!
End of a good month March '09 was a much bigger month then '08 def kept the legs better over the winter. March 325.48 miles 33.89 hrs.

Lunch ride back
OY! 4 days off and my lungs hated me :) But it was nice to get back into the swing of things. Short ride but not short on climbing. The legs didn't have that good snap they did a few days before, but my diet over the weekend wasn't great and I was short on sleep. SO off to it and up to teh firehouse I was 2nd to the top but it hurt way more then usuall :) Down pomerado and the straight but slow rise up to twin peaks. I got dropped on twin peaks as I was catching a stitch in my side.... Not a great ride but good to get back on the bike!
PCH ride
Finally with daylights savings here me and Joe hit up the PCH for a post work road ride. We left from his house and headed down into la jolla and up the scripps pier climb. At the base I wasn't feeling it, but after I made the turn I started to pick up the tempo and held a good tempo to the top. That hurt! We kept a nice pace over the flat and down torrey pines. Up into Delmar and we hit the turn around at Solana Beach. Paused at Dog beach to take a quick pic for the people in snowy areas :) and hit the road.
It was time to climb up Torrey pines. We hit the steep inside, I hammered it from the get and at the switch back I had 100 yrds on Joe. I kept the pace and sprinted out that last 50m out of the saddle and in the drops! That hurt alot! I was hurting now and limped a bit up the rest and back to Joe's house a great ride!
